Our Ice Cream

We make ice cream for people who LOVE eating ice cream!

Founded in Wellington in 2011, Wooden Spoon Boutique Freezery makes small batch, hand-crafted ice cream using high quality ingredients. Our flavours are inspired by memories from our childhood - fun times, family & friends and a sense of adventure.

We believe that making great ice cream starts with using great ingredients, so each batch is hand-made using Zany Zeus organic milk and cream. We also believe that ice cream at it's purest tastes the best, so we cook our custards on the hob and do not use any pre-made mixes, stabilisers or preservatives. This is an important distinction and one that makes us stand out. Most other ice creams on the shelves are a pre-made mix that is put directly in the ice cream machine. By cooking our custards, we achieve a beautiful texture that's impossible to replicate with a mix.

Our mix-ins

Like our custards, we make our own mix-ins from scratch. The chocolate sauce that acts as a base for our Chocolate + Sea Salt and O'chocolypse, the caramel in our beloved Smokey Pokey. The hokey pokey in Smokey Pokey, even the slivers of chocolate in our Mint Chip are melted down and made the way we like them best. Did you know that we cold-brew the coffee in our Peoples 'Ca Phe Da,' for at least 24 hours before we mix it with the rest of the custard? We take our time to do it right and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Our Community

Wellington has such a vibrant and rich food scene, with tons of talented local producers, that when possible we try and collaborate on exciting and unique ice cream flavours. For the second year in a row, we've released our Freeze Craft series where we partnered up with some of our favourite people to make really exciting, new flavours that you don't see everyday. In the past, we worked with Wellington Chocolate Factory, Garage Project, & Montfoort Stroopwafels. For 2016, we're at it again with Fix & Fogg, Zany Zeus and Earthbound Honey from Auckland.

We're passionate about what we do, and strive to delight our customers. We take our job very seriously, but not ourselves, and this comes across in our range of fun and inspired flavours that we think people of all ages will enjoy.
