The Hooray Programme

Helping kids celebrate themselves: every child should get to have a birthday party.

Updated October 2026: Programme history and ways to support Kaibosh tidied up by the Wooden Spoon team.

The Hooray Programme was launched by Wooden Spoon Freezery and Kaibosh Food Rescue to give children in Wellington community groups the chance to celebrate the best day of the year: their birthday. We believe every child should have the experience of a birthday party.

We created a special flavour for the initiative, Birthday Cake: a house-made cake batter ice cream with crunchy rainbow sprinkles. Through the programme, 10% of Birthday Cake proceeds went to support Kaibosh's operations, and Wellington community groups supported by Kaibosh received Birthday Cake ice cream for their celebrations.
